Sabal mexicana or Texas Palmetto is a medium sized palm to around 50 feet with a singular columnar trunk that holds leaf bases for many years. Bears bright green to yellow-green fan shaped 3 foot long leaves. Long panicles of cream colored flowers during the summer months. The leaves have a prominent and strongly downward arching leaf midrib which gives the leaves a folded three-dimensional look. The Texas palm thrives in a humid atmosphere in rich loamy, moist and well-drained soils however it will adapt most soil conditions. Once established this palm is very drought tolerant however semi-regular water will improve the overall look of the tree. Good in partial to full-sun. Will tolerate dips into freezing temperatures for shot periods of time. Native to the Texas and Central America.
