Nucleotides

Mina Sala asks:

Question

Where do plants get their free nucleotides from?

Answer

It has been along time since I took my courses in plant physiology so I would be lying if I said I could remember but here is a paragraph I found about the free nucleotides in plants. (Guessing you asked the same question the this site too.)

Nucleotides are generally synthesized from scratch, through “salvage pathways” which form new nucleotides fromexisting ones, and from the diet.Although many cell types andtissues are capable of synthesizing nucleotides, some, such asimmune and intestinal cells, often lack the capability tosynthesize nucleotides and depend on the availability of pre-formednucleotides.
