asdoran@ asks:

Question

I leave in Northern Virginia. I would like a ground cover that flowers and grows in shady areas.

Answer

Here is a list of several ground covers that should do well in your area.

-Eurybia divaricata, White Wood Aster
-Symphyotrichum cordifolium, Heart-leaved Aster
-Pachysandra procumbens, Alleghany Spurge
-Tiarella cordifolia, Foamflower
-Dryopteris erythrosora, Japanese Shield Fern or Autumn Fern
-Euphorbia amygdaloides, Robb’s Spurge

All Hosta do well in light to full-shade as well.
