Flower Garden & Leaves

kaydmydog@ asks:

Question

Should I take the leaves out of my Garden now that Spring is here? I left them in the garden during winter to protect the flowers. Waiting for your reply. Thanks.

Answer

Yes, April is the perfect time of year to clean out the leaf litter and debris that has accumulated over the winter in flowers beds. Removing the leaf litter will allow the sun to warm the soil which in turn encourages root and shoot growth on woody plants as well as perennials and entice bulbs out of dormancy.

Once you remove the leaf litter from your flower bed you can compost it and later add it back to your garden as the best fertilizer money can buy!

Happy Gardening!
