Okra is a warm-season, annual vegetable from the same family as hibiscus. The unopened flower pods are commonly used in many southern dishes such as soups and boils. The hibiscus like flowers are also grown as an ornamental in the landscape. Okra seed will not germinate in cool soils, plant seeds a week to ten days after the last frost in your area.
