The Pumpkin is a warm-season vegetable that can be grown throughout much of the US. Seeds will not germinate in cold soil. Do not plant until all danger of frost has passed, and the soil has warmed, frost may kill seedlings. Pumpkins grown for Halloween should be planted around late May in northern locations to early July southern sites. If pumpkins are planted too early, they may soften and rot before Halloween. Pumpkins do well in hot dry weather but may need a good soak after extended dry periods.
