Virginia Creeper On a Tree

Linda Melcher asks:

Question

Does virginia creeper harm large trees to climb them?

Answer

In most cases vines including Virginia Creeper will not harm a large tree. Vines do become damaging to trees when they envelop the canopy and block the tree's leaves from the sunlight, overtime it will reduce the trees vigor and could eventually kill the tree.
